As previously mentioned, I have quite bad eyes.. Cataracts, glaucoma, epiretinal membrane and macular degeneration. I noticed recently (actually for quite a while now) that I “see slow”. When I see a person, it takes time to scan their face and recognize them. Yesterday in a store somebody called my name, I turned and waved and said hello and then they walked out of sight. I didn’t have time to really see their face. I stopped at a stoplight and looking at the license plate in front of me, some of the numbers will be blurred or seem to be missing parts, I absorb the numbers that I can see, and then I have to go back and like scan the parts that I can’t see clearly.
it’s difficult to describe what a defect in the vision is like. I can see okay to drive, reading still seems to be okay, but slower, and I practically need the extra large text I get on my Kindle.
Did you ever see somebody, like Stevie Wonder, move their head and fa kind of igure eight pattern? I catch myself doing something similar, trying to get a good part of the optic nerve to see the missing part of my eye’s image.
I call it seeing slow.
Tomorrow is election day here. I’m ready to vote!
