Hurricane Grace

It’s blowing pretty hard right now. It’s loud and noisy, things banging around outside. I took the above video about a half hour ago, about 6:15 AM

If it’s actually a hurricane, It’s category one. But we had a couple of very strong gusts a little while ago reminding me of Hurricane Ivan..

Water and power are off. Power went off about 5 till 6, water about 6:20.

All good here. But I wish there was power for coffee.

8:07 AM update.

Seems like the wind is coming from the south now, instead of the east. Lots of damage in the yard, none to the house or fence, so far.

UPDATE: 11:22 AM: Still blowing and raining hard, but easing up. Still no power or city water, but I needed coffee.

Best cuppa coffee ever!

I’m supposed to be at work at noon, that’s not gonna happen.

TS Grace

We are dead center for Tropical Storm Grace. My hurricane shutters are up already or ready to go instantly, but I don’t expect it to really be that bad.

I drove past a grocery store yesterday during lunch hour and traffic was atrocious. People were blocking 4 lanes of traffic to enter the grocery store parking lot. It never occurred to me why until I got back to work and thought about it for a minute.

Not to be boastful, but I somewhat maintain a state of readiness even when there are no storms coming.

Overall, it was a nice weekend. Saturday was rainy and snoozy. I rested except for a little shopping. I bought some flowerpots and a new faucet for the bathroom sink.

Sunday morning I installed the faucet and re-potted some plants. Then I went for a long beach walk.

Music at the Library

Several weeks ago, I put an event on my calendar, “Music at the Library” part of the Cayman Arts Festival. I stopped by on my way to movie night last night. It was very nice I was quite surprised at the young man’s skill.

And below is a video I took last night. Quite nice. Under 3 minutes long.

I’m glad I went, I don’t know what made me put it on my calendar when I heard about it, but I’m glad I did, I would have forgotten about it if I didn’t.

After that I went to movie night at the Westin, had a chicken sandwich and left about a quarter way through the movie, “What Women Want“

Then I went and saw some friends in Bodden Town and had overall a very nice evening..

Then I slept good, and feel good so far this Friday The 13th morning. And my class that I was so worried about yesterday wasn’t as bad as I thought. All’s well that ends well. Plus, yesterday at lunchtime I met a couple of really nice Rottweiler puppies.

Rough Night

Last night was a rough night. Woke up about 2:10. Then I was in and out all the rest of the night. Twice, I dreamed I forgot how to breathe and woke up gasping. At one point, I was laying there, seriously wondering if I was asleep or awake. And not sure of the answer. Sometimes I think I’m awake all night, but my sleep function on my watch says I was asleep.

I turned in an essay for a course I’m taking. I was going for the Ace, 100%. I worked hard, I thought it was good. I got it back, she didn’t even finish grading it and she wants to see me after class.

I got super angry with a driver on the road yesterday. Yelled and cussed and laid on the horn. Scared my passenger I think.

I have become the exact person I didn’t want to be as a child.

I sometimes feel like I’m on a different planet than everyone else.

I’ll be glad when today is over.

We need rain (it’s raining)

It seems like it’s raining everywhere but here. I’m in the mood for a couple days of good rain. Maybe we’ll get some rain from the storm after Fred.

It was raining a minute ago, but it stopped. It HAS been raining, just not enough. Seems like it rains everywhere but here. Here being in my yard.

It’s cloudy and rainy enough to stop you from going to the beach. It stops you from riding your scooter instead of driving your car. But it doesn’t water the plants.

Anyway, I can’t control it, so I might as well not worry about it. HAVE A GOOD DAY!!!!

Trip To The Dog Doc

Daisy and Lenny went to the veterinarian yesterday for their annual checkup and shots.

They both behaved surprisingly well. I was very proud of them.

They had canned food for dinner last night because they were so good.

In other news, some camels were banned from Saudi beauty contest over Botox injections in their lips.

Busy & Not Too Fun

I spent most of Saturday and some of Sunday trimming trees in the backyard. See pic above. I wish I had taken a before shor, you could touch the tree branches from the porch. Ran into chainsaw trouble Sunday, I’m still not done. I rekkon I’m done enough.

I missed a big street parade Carnival Saturday too. I really wanted to go, but, you know, chainsawing.

Weather coming, looks like. We need some rain.

Today, both dogs are going to the vet to get shots and checkups.

Last week, I think it was Wednesday, someone creased my car in the parking lot of the grocery store. I think I noticed it immediately after it happened. It is upsetting, to say the least. I’m not going to do anything about it though. My first damage to my new baby van.

Helluva Good Movie Night

  • Fashion show at the Westin

I went to Movie Night last night and the Westin was PACKED. There was fashion show in the lobby and Movie Night outside. Plus I heard but did not see a third event over in their “event tent”.

None of my regular movie night crew went, and I was alone, but I expanded the movie night group considerably. I saw people who I introduced to movie night and people I knew in general who indicated a willingness to attend future movie nights..

I had a nice dinner, the coconut shrimp and fruit. More of an appetizer really, but I saw someone else with it weeks ago and wanted one ever since. I didn’t take a picture of the shrimp, but I did take a picture of my dessert, and pasted a crop from the menu onto the pic. I didn’t know what coulis was, so really, it was an educational dessert. A selfless dessert for the good of you, me dear readers.

It was goooood. I could have eaten a whole bunch of them. But I didn’t, gotta watch the figure!

But I didn’t actually stay for movie night. When the movie started, I left and went and saw some friends in Bodden Town.

It was a really nice evening, much nicer than I expected when I left the house

And now it’s Friday! Ya can’t beat that!

Hassle VS Not

I noticed this morning, shaving is always pain, but showering isn’t. Making my lunch is a hassle, but making coffee is not. Walking the dogs and my morning exercise seem to alternate between wanted and a pain-in-the-butt, but it is seldom that they are both in the same category.

I certainly enjoy EATING lunch, when the time comes, but making it in the morning… Bah!

But anyway, Friday’s almost here. It looks like it’s gonna be a movie night tonight. There’s Something About Mary, I don’t think I’ve seen it.

After that, IT’S FRIDAY TOMORROW! The weekdays are a hassle, but the weekends are not! On the bright side though, did you ever notice how it seems like it’s only the first five days after the weekend that are a hassle, after that it’s not so bad…
