Miscellaneous Repairs

As mentioned, I went.to Cayman Brac yesterday for work. It was a good trip and a long day.

The wife is going to the doctor’s today for some miscellaneous repairs too.

Today is a friends goodbye party. He got a new job. Free lunch at work!

Today is our first payday in about 6 weeks. December, we got paid early, because of Xmas, January, we got paid mid month to bridge the gap. That didn’t seem too bad, but it seems like a long time this month. Paid all the bills twice on one paycheck.

Looking forward to the weekend. Have a good-un!

Birthday Dinner

Had a nice birthday dinner for my wife with friends last night. We went to the Thai Orchid Restaurant. As usual, it was very good. It was also Kate’s birthday, the blonde in the top two pictures below.

We all stayed up too late last night and I, for one am dragging this morning. Tomorrow will be a long day as well, I’m going to Cayman Brac for work for the day. It will be a 14 hour day, minimum. Hope I can get some extra sleep tonight!

Have a great day!

Never Ask

There was this little gradeschool boy, primary school aged, 8 or 9 years old. He.lived with his mom, she was happily divorced and they had a nice little apartment and a good life.

One day the little boy asked his mom, “Mom, how old are you?” The mom chuckled and said “Son, you should never ask a lady how old she is.”

“Oh,” said the little boy. “well, how much do you weigh?”

The mom laughed a little more and said, “that’s another thing you should never ask, how much a lady weighs.”

But the little boy wanted to know, so when his mom wasn’t around, he sneaked in her purse and looked at her drivers license.

Later that day, he says, “Mom, guess what? I found out how old you are, how much you weigh and I also found out why daddy left.”

That last part took the Mommy by surprise and she stammered a little, “What? Why do you think daddy left?”

And the little boy replied, “Because you got an ‘F’ in sex!”

Have a happy Tuesday. Today is my wife’s birthday, don’t ask how.old she is or how much she weighs. But she got an A+

Ocean Floor Landfills

God should just kill us all now. We’re not worthy of this planet.

I just read an article that alarms me greatly and quite literally, makes me sick.

In hindsight, I should have known we were doing it. And of course, it’s worse than I can imagine. And you know the humans are doing it on purpose, because it’s the easy way and they can get away with it.

I’m talking about humans dumping garbage at sea. Humans allowing litter to enter waterways, lakes and oceans.

Look at the video below, look at all the plastic bottles. (in the video, there’s a date in the upper left, so I’m not sure this is really 10 years after the tsunami, or even that is is garbage from the tsunami, but it’s disgusting anyway)

Nowhere is exempt

Imagine underwater garbage dumps with a garbage density greater than that of a landfill.

Read the article.

Like so many things, by the time you hear about it, it’s already pretty much too late. I think plastic is the worst. Here, the only beach litter you find is plastic, pretty much. I’ve avoided generating plastic waste for years, it’s literally impossible, all we can do is the best we can, but too many of us don’t seem to try at all or even care.

And this post, and the article, referenced is primarily about the garbage that sinks. Click Here to read about floating garbage.

Friday Pictures

The Perseverance Rover landed without a hitch yesterday. It wasn’t even mentioned on the BBC news this morning, to my disappointment.

Below is an assortment (a nassortment) of pictures from the last week.

It’s Friday and I am looking forward to the weekend. Have a very good one!

Perseverance Robot Landing TODAY!

Today is the day! The Perseverance robot heads for its daunting landing. I read that only 40% of Mars landings have been successful.

GMT = UTC

This expensive lander is as big as a car and there’s also a helicopter!

I’ll be following the play by play today and hope for total success! FYI, 20:00 GMT equals 3 PM Cayman time, which is the same as EST. Below is the NASA Live Stream that should be covering it.

Yesterday was a holiday here. I started mowing the yard, then the mower broke so I repaired it and finished mowing. Then it got cloudy but rained everywhere but here. I took a nap and went out for a burger. And I cleaned my desk insides.

Have a good day!

FaTuesday

Woke up thinking the Perseverance Lander was going to land on Mars today, but that’s not today, it’s Thursday.

So instead I’ll post about Fat Tuesday, the beginning of Mardi Gras.

I don’t know anything about Mardi Gras, I’ve never been. I know it’s a party in the streets in New Orleans. Any reason to party in the streets is a good reason, as far as I’m concerned.

The internet has fliers, schedules of events and notices that it’s canceled. I don’t know what’s going on up there.

Mardi Gras is the first outdoor event of spring, signaling the end of winter and the start of the outdoor season. And Fat Tuesday is the start of Mardi Gras, so HAPPY SUMMER (to the northern hemisphere)!

Interesting Coincidence

Last week I read an article about British Airways putting a brand new plane in storage in Arizona.

I looked up the Victorville Aircraft storage facility on Google Earth.

On the map, I saw a company called ComAv. Our contractor here is AVCOM. I clicked on their name on the map.

The image that opened for them had a Cayman Airways jet, very predominantly shown. I almost didn’t notice or pay any attention, because, living here, I see Cayman Airways jets and pictures of them all the time. But my slow, dim brain said “hey, wait a minute, but that’s not in Cayman!.”

For a while, during the Max 8 grounding, Cayman Air had one of our new Max 8s up there for storage. Somehow, the ComAv pic got taken when it was parked out front.

Pretty cool, huh?

Have a great week!

Weather App, Still Looking

my weather apps, none any good.

I have all the weather apps above. I trust none of them. Seriously, I look and still feel like I’ve received no information at all.

Right now, it’s about 100% cloudy, all the apps say it’s clear, except one, “Weather Forecast”, second from the top left. Cayman Islands Weather Service app always says rain. I don’t even think they have any sunny icons.

Dive boat operators have good weather apps. They’re always moving their boats to the appropriate side of the island the day before the weather. But their source of info seems to be the world’s greatest secret.

I wanna ride my scooter, but I’m taking the van. Again. I got rained on Monday or Tuesday.

Have a wonderful, sunny weekend! Happy Friday! And tell me, what’s your weather app?

Fun With A and An

It occurred to me yesterday that it would be funny to transpose the words “a” and “an”.

You know the rule right? If the next word starts with a vowel sound, you’d use “an”. An apple. An hour.

If it starts with a consonant sound it’s “a”. A car, a pickle.

Your assignment for to day is to transpose a and an in your speech, but move a letter to keep the rule intact.

For example:

“A napple”

“Ak lock” (sounds.like a K)

“An Ewt”

“A norange”

Only in speech, not writing. And just for today. Don’t be ab ore.

Just do it.

Maybe no one will notice.
