25th Anniversary

Today is the 25th anniversary of my arrival here in the Cayman Islands. February 4th 1997 till today, February 4th 2022.

25 years ago to the minute, I was sitting at Norfolk International Airport, nervously waiting to take off.

It doesn’t seem that long ago.

Have a great weekend!

31 Years

Happy Birthday to me. 31 years. 2021 was far worse than the years that drove me to quit drinking. I’m glad it’s gone.

Today will be a beach day.

I was going to write something else but I can’t remember what it was now.

have a great Sunday!

First Time…

…posting this year.

Happy New Year! I can almost guarantee you that this year will be better than last.

Last night I went out early and ate, was home early, but stayed up till about 2AM. There were fireworks galore.

Today I will be cleaning up the porch after the tile job, and probably going to the beach.

Have a wonderful 2022!

Manrique In Heaven

One year ago today, Manrique died. I wanted to name this post “December 7th 2020, a day that will live in infamy”, but I did that last year.

I didn’t know if it then, but when did Manrique died, It was the beginning of the end of my world. It was the event that set my divorce in motion.

He was a really good friend, and friends are hard to come by for me this day and age. I knew he was sick, but I didn’t think he would die.

I’ll tell you what though, today’s not gonna be some miserable sad day of mourning. I’ve been miserable the past year, and I’m getting over it.

I can see again!

I got my new glasses yesterday and they are instantly so much better, that I can’t believe that I put up with that crap of the old glasses. I remember when I got the old ones new I thought they would take getting used to but I never got used to them. I believe they may have even hurt my eyes.

On this day in 2005 I met my wife. It’s surreal to go back to the 14th thru the 17th of September 2005 and read those posts on this blog. It will slay me if I can look back on these present days with 20/20 hindsight and see a way I could have saved my marriage., but I sure can’t see it now.

Notice I said 20/20 in a post about my glasses. Very clever!

Have a great day!

UPDATE! FOR SOME REASON, I THOUGHT TODAY WAS THE 16TH. I met my wife on the 16th of September 2005.

Hands Across America

I thought the 26th of May was the anniversary of Hands Across America. I was in it, at College Park Maryland, USA. But, this morning I realized it was the 25th.

Getting the date wrong kinda pulled the rug out from under this post, which I’ve had planned for a week or so. The BBC has been advertising a special podcast and I’m sure they were saying the 26th the whole time.

Anyway, I participated in Hands Across America, and it was pretty cool.

How embarrassing.

In other news, there was an eclipse of the moon this morning. Who knew? I didn’t. I generally keep track of these things, and was quite surprised. I did my morning exercises, I saw the full moon. I took the dogs for their walk, and watched it become a half moon. Quite impressive. I have witnesses in case you don’t believe there was an eclipse. It’s probably just ending as I type this.

Anyway, I seem to be way off the mark for everything today. On a break from reality. So wish me luck getting through the day unscathed!

Fast Runner

I realized today what a fast runner I am. i spilled coffee grounds this morning, and apparently, it takes me the same amount of time to clean up spilled coffee grounds as it takes me to run my 1.8 mile course, because by the time I got it cleaned up, It was the same time on the clock as when I get into the shower.

i didn’t run today, spilled coffee, didn’t have time.

If Ditto was still alive, it`d be his birthday. Also, on this day in 1979, I left Silver Spring, MD for boot camp.

Yesterday at work, I ha annual safety training, all day. Got it again this afternoon, and tomorrow morning.

There’s your daily randomness. Havva goodun!

Happy Anniversary!

Ten Years ago this evening, I was on Cayman Brac and I met the girl who became my wife.
I firmly believe that there is no better human on this planet than she is. I wouldn’t change a thing. She is the best part of my life and the best part of my day, every day.

My first words to her were “Which one of these two cables is longer?” I asked, holding up two coils of audio cable. I was working for Radio Cayman and she was at the front desk of Brac Reef Resort.

While today isn’t any sort of official anniversary, like a birthday or wedding anniversary, it’s the anniversary of a day that changed my life for the better, forever.
