Finally Friday

My feet and the moon

A horrible photo of me, great photo of Ashy.

Glad it’s Friday. Long week. Weather has been nice. I rode the scooter since Tuesday, first time since the 7th.

No plans for the weekend. Halloween tomorrow. I’m gonna be a Star Trek dude. My costume is a Star Trek T-shirt. The wife and all our friends have very elaborate costumes they’ve been working on for months. Not looking forward to spending the evening with a bunch of people who are drinking and drunk.

Hope I get to the beach this weekend and I’d love to go diving.

Started this post feeling OK, now I’m not so sure…

Have a good weekend!

Rough Night

Last night I went to bed at 10 and woke up at 2. I got up and drank some water, but after that, although I slept, I was aware and felt like I was awake. I had weird dreams.

One dream, I was in this fishing store, and I HAD to buy something, but there was nothing I wanted. The closest thing to something I’d buy was a welcome mat with the name of the fishing store on it, and I didn’t want to buy that. I’m aware there’s a lot I can’t remember to this dream.

Another dream was that someone was forging a contract or document, (I think they were stealing my house). In this dream, a girl was taking the contract or deed, hold it against the wall, and pour water behind the document so that it flows down the wall, and then  you could  change the document.

Even when I’m dreaming these dreams, I know they are crazy, and I feel nauseous while I’m dreaming. Part of me is saying, “stop thinking this shit”

Even now, I feel like my brain is not functioning correctly. For example, I did a Google image search for “rough night” and got bizarre results, then I think “Am I crazy? What is this?” All I wanted was a funny picture for my blog.

Try it, Google “rough night” and tell me what it is.

This type of brain malady can only bee cured with lots and lots of coffee. Working on it.

Thankful Thursday

I went to the beach at lunchtime yesterday, but the water was kinda  rough, and I didn’t go snorkeling. Today would be a good day for some underwater pictures, but I don’t have any new ones. I don’t have anything to post about, either.

9 people killed in a church in Charleston.
60 million immigrants worldwide right now, people who have fled their homes and countries because of wars and conflicts.

I’m lucky and glad I live where I do. All my problems pale in comparison to what many have to deal with.

My lawnmower is broken.
Dog pooped on the porch.
Waves too big to get photos at my beach lunch.

I’ve got a full set of problems right now. Six months ago I had a full set of problems. Six months from now I’ll still probably have a full set of problems. On a good day, maybe I get rid of five old problems and only get three new ones, on a bad day, maybe I get five new and only get rid of three. But right now, I can’t remember what my full set of problems were six months ago, and six months from now, I probably won’t remember what my full set of problems is today.
The secret of life is not to wait til I get rid  of all my problems and finally have a perfect life, the secret of life is to be happy, even with my unresolved problems, because my “in box” will  never be empty.

This is something I know, but forget all too often.

Have a good day.

Since My Last Post

My Last post was Thursday morning, in Miami. Thursday after school, I went looking for a denim skirt size 6 for The Wife. I was keeping an eye out all week, but Thursday I looked all over and  finally found one at Nordstroms for $211.

Got back to the room late, and started packing. It was after 1AM when I went to bed.

I got up Friday morning, finished packing and checked out of the hotel and went to school. I was hoping we’d get out early the last day of class, but no, we stayed late. The instructor printed the certificates. He was handing them out when the guy right before me said his name was spelled wrong. So. everyone (but me) had their certificates, and I had to wait till he re-printed one. It took him an hour to print one sheet. I’ve never seen anyone with an Apple computer do anything easily and without problems. Lately all the Apples I’ve seen have been running Windows.  What’s up with that? You’d never see Windows machine running Apple.  Windows doesn’t need it. And you know  that I don’t even like Windows. Also my phone rang in school, and I couldn’t answer it because I was in school. They left a voice message. I never retrieve voice messages on the road, as our phone company, LIME, is the most incredible ripoffs on the planet. I don’t even know how to get messages when roaming.

So, finally we got our good byes said and I  was on the road. My flight was 9:25 PM and I figured I could head to the beach for an hour and then head to the airport, stopping at a cigar store that was very close to the airport on the way.

I left the beach with plenty of time to spare, traffic was atrocious, 5:30 PM on a Friday afternoon, the worst of the rush hours.. The GPS wanted to put me on a toll road. I didn’t go on the tool road. I got lost and was at the southern  end of I-95. I canceled the cigar stop and programmed the GPS for the  airport. The GPS wanted me to go on the toll road. At this point I didn’t care any more, so  I went. Got to the airport (I never had to pay a toll) and checked in the car. Went to the ticket counter and was informed my 9:25 was delayed till 1 AM.

Trapped at the airport, no cigars. I could have spent the whole day differently. I could have stayed at the beach until rush hour was over, gone to the cigar store and done some more shopping. It could have been a wonderful day, had I known about the flight being delayed. If I knew in advance the flight was delayed, I would have been glad.

Got home about 3AM. Went to bed. Got up Saturday morning and checked my voice mail, and the call I missed in school was Cayman Airways, telling me about the delay.

After that, it was a good weekend. Yesterday was a holiday, Discovery Day. And now I’m heading into work this morning.

Overall, it was a great trip, I think it’s the first time I ever spent time in Miami, really. Usually I’m just in transit. I spent a week in Ft Lauderdale once in the early 90’s..

Have a good  week!

Goal Zero Disappointment

image

As you may remember, I had a Goal Zero Nomad 20 portable solar panel. I loved it the few months I had it, and I used it all day every day.

Then one day, it died. Under warranty, with good customer service and friendly staff, the manufacturer sent me a  replacement.

Happily, I took the new panel out of the box and plugged in one of my two Guide 10 power packs.

Nothing. No charge light. I check the cable and when I touch it, the charge light comes on, let go, it goes off. Intermittent (bad) cable.

I emailed the manufacturers and they want me to check all this stuff. “Yeah, it all works, except the bad cable”. I know a bad cable when I see one.

So now, customer service doesn’t seem so good, but really, the problem is on my end, I don’t feel motivated to go through the motions of  getting another panel.

I’m very very disappointed (I should type “very” a bunch more times in this sentence). I woke up at 4 this morning, thinking about it.  I got up and decided to write about it here..

I figured those cables were the weak  point before I bought it. They are permanently attached and cannot be removed/replaced. Plus the storage pouch stays full of all these cables that never get used. I only used one, sometimes two. It would be a better design if there were jacks that you could plug the cable you need into, instead of an octopus of cables coming out of a box. The jacks could be very strong. The cables could be  easily replaced. It would be far superior. Although I must point out that it wasn’t the cable that failed the first time, it was something in the electronics.

I  bought a new connector, and am ready to cut the bad one off and solder the new one on. I guess I should do that today, but I think I’ve “fallen out of love” with my Nomad 20 solar panel I want to find a new model and manufacturer, something more durable and with a better design.

This is a rare Sunday post.  I didn’t post Thursday because of a massive dog mess that I woke up to and had to clean up. Then Thursday afternoon I dropped my motorcycle off to get a new tire and had to leave early Friday morning to catch the bus to work, hence no Friday post either. Now it’s Sunday and tomorrow we’re going to Costa Rica! I’m off work till April 9th!

Sure do wish I was taking my solar panel with me to Costa Rica, Costa Rica is a good place to have a solar panel.

Holiday Stress

Same story every year:
1: I don’t know what gifts to get people for the holidays.
2: I don’t have the money to buy anything anyway.
3: I don’t want anything for Christmas
4: I don’t want to buy anybody anything for Christmas
5: I don’t want to participate at all.

I hate to sound like a scrooge, but a spaceman observing our behavior from space would think we are idiots. We have “Thee Holiday of Thanksgiving”, then we spend the next month greedily grabbing up all this unnecessary crap. Nobody wants to do it, everybody does it because everybody else is.

And don’t try to hand me any of that Jesus crap, if you’re celebrating the birth of a great man, this period of insane behavior is NOT the way to do it.

And you know what? I don’t give a rats ass if I DO sound like scrooge!

Let me outta here!
