Better Than Expected

The concrete pour came out better than I dared hope. 14.6 cubic yards of concrete, I learned yesterday that one of those cement mixer trucks on the road can only carry 9 cubic yards. Two truckloads of concrete poured under the house yesterday.

The guys worked really hard yesterday, till almost 7PM. I took ’em a case of beer when I got home at 5. I told ’em to drink it all and don’t leave any left over, which they did. Of course, as you know, I don’t drink.

Below is a video I made this morning of my first walk on the dried concrete. Pardon the audio, I sound like a mumbling sleepwalker, which I am. Pre-dog walk, pre coffee, pre shower.

Today they start the block walls, I’ve mentioned several times that maybe they could have it done by New Years, yesterday I changed it to Christmas and for the first time, they confirmed that this was a possibility. They originally estimated end of January 2020.

Things are looking good today. Hope they’re looking good for you too.

The Big Pour

Today is the day of the big pour. The foundation, breezeway and walkway.

I hope I can take off work and be here, but I have a meeting that ends at the same time the concrete truck arrives.

After today, there will be no dirt portions under the house. When we moved in, it was all dirt, except a little porch.

My wife is thinking about painting the interior of the house. She mentioned it the other day, and I said “Go for it.” Yesterday I saw what looked like Post-It-Notes on the walls, and when I went closer to read them, I realized they were those color sample cards.

I’m off Friday, I put in for 1 vacation day. It wasn’t my idea. But it’s a good idea. Monday is a holiday for a referendum vote. Cruise ship dock.

Have a good day! Pictures tomorrow!

Quite The Yesterday

I didn’t post yesterday, as you, like all my gazillion readers know, but it wasn’t my fault.

Yesterday the wife had to go to work earlier than me, I was worried that she would be interfering with my morning routine. I was very happily surprised that she was already out of the shower by the time I got home from walking the dogs.

What really shot down my routine was the fact that I tracked dawg doo over half the house, and was cleaning that up.

The poop was on my heel, and I came upstairs with noticing it, But once I started across the dining room to the kitchen, I noticed “a little extra cushioning in my step”.

Poop Shoes

Spray bottle and a roll of paper towels, how I spent my coffee/blog time yesterday.

Then, I rode the scooter, 30% chance of showers, and it became 100% overcast and rained. I’m lucky I made it home dry.

But other than that it was a really good day!

YOU have a good day today! Watch your step!

Late November

I have constantly been running late since this month started!

Woke up having a dream that I was in this building that was connected by swimming pools instead of hallways. If you wanted to go to another room, you just jump in and swim there. In the dream, I lost my black, oval glasses. They were my glasses about 3 or 4 pairs of glasses ago.

So far this month, I’ve been late getting up, late walking the dogs, late with my coffee and late leaving for work. Late November.

Below is a video from late last month, October 30th. Triggefish and a flounder, two videos pasted together. Need an Android app that lets me put a transition in merged videos…

Have a great weekend!

Happy Hollow-Weenie!

What do you get wheen you take the insides out of a hot dog?

A hollow-weenie!

Why was the skeleton afraid to cross the road?

He didn’t have the guts!

Saw the constellation Voltan this morning. It was unusually clear and dark to the south. What stood out and made me look it up was the triangle formed by stars 1, 5 & 6. Star 4 was the brightest.

Didn’t see stars 2 & 3… Too low.

Below is a video of yesterday when I got home from work. Electrical and plumbing started, then comes steel and the concrete truck. Then the walls.

I need a new battery for the van, it wouldn’t start after I went to pick up the dogs last night. If it’ll start this morning, I’ll be lucky, id not, I’ll have to pulll the battery and carry it while scooter to work. In the rain…

But it’s almost the weekend! Havva goodun!

Oh Delicious Ultra Mega Orange!

Last night, after a wonderful dinner, the wife and I stopped by the store to pick up a few items.

I rounded the corner and saw the most delicious looking liquid I think I ever saw. The deepest depths of the finest artificial orangeness came to mind. Tasty, appetizing, scrumptious, yummy, luscious, delectable, mouth-watering, fit for a king, delightful, lovely, wonderful, pleasant, enjoyable, appealing, enchanting, charming. To mind came all the possible sensual pleasures of the palate.

I rounded the corner, mouth watering, drooling like Pavlovs dogs, delieriously imagining the sight of the beautiful, syrup bottle of the most delicious magnificent orange flavor, amlpified orange intensity exceding the limits of the human endurance for culinary pleasure. Anticipating the label of the most powerful, sweetest orange flavor known to humankind. Oh Delicious Ultra Mega Orange! Come to papa!

Only to have my hopes dashed, shattered into particles of nothingness.

I almost bought a bottle anyway, a color like that, it has to taste good.

I’m hearing thunder and seeing clouds to the south, where I gotta go to work. My scooter day looks like it to, has been dashed into articles of nothingness.

Good Foundation

Yesterday, the rock to fill in the foundation arrived and was put into place. Today comes steelwork and then another inspection. Then the cement truck again for “the big pour”.

Someone musta whined about the 1949 Christmas song “Baby It’s Cold Outside”. Whoever it was is saying it’s a date rape song. Pa-leeese. It was on the BBC this morning. What a waste of air time.

It’s Tuesday, my assignment for the last last three weeks training is due today. I turned it in yesterday. Hope it’s in the ballpark.

Have a great day!

Almost Rained To The End

Panorma Sunday after the rain.

It’s another Monday. I wanted to do a lot of things this weekend but it rained right up to Sunday afternoon. The grass is a mile high.

Construction is proceeding, the crew took their first day off on Sunday. OK by me. This week they should finish the foundatioion and start the walls.

In fact, I think the workers are arriving, 6:48AM.

Busy week for me at work this week. On a scale of one to three, I’m a two.

Have a great week!

Reverse Competition

Near our house, there’s a little drug store/pharmacy.chemist on the corner.

Recently, as in probably 6 months ago, they cranked up their pirces on stuff like vitamins and dietary supplements. (Not the prescription drugs, I rekkon the insurance companies would be alerted then)

So, a bottle of vitamins that used to cost $3.50, costs $9 or even $12.

Needless to say, I’m getting my vitamins and non prescription stuff at the grocrty store.

What I worry about, is that when the grocery stores and other merchants see that this drug store has cranked up prices, they’ll crank up prices too.

Reverse Comeptition.

The drug store dude isn’t going to lower his price to be competive for a fixed portion of island wide sales, the other sellers are going to say “Wheee! Look how much money he’s making! I’d like to make that much money too!” And crank up their prices too.

It’s a fear, hasn’t happened yet. But I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who’s noticed and is buying elsewhere.

I used to wander around that same drugstore while I was waiting for my prescription to be filled, putting vitamins and other cool stuff that I didn’t really need in my shopping cart. Not anymore, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

There is potential for a bad thing here.

It’s Friday! They poured the footer for the foundation yesterday, and the foundation should be done soon!

Have a great weekend!

Not So Productive Yesterday

cement in the way

Yesterday was the least productive day so far. The inspector was supposed to come yesterday morning, then change it to afternoon, then till today. I had to reschedule the cement mixer. The delivery dude dumped the cement, above, right in the way of everything. The guys’ll have to move all these bags of concrete by hand. (The concrete is for the blocks. The cement mixer truck is for the foundation.)

The gravel and sand people weren’t answering the phone, I ended up ordering it from somewhere else, and not sure I got a good price.

Work has been the same. I feel like I’m spinning my wheels. Too much needs to be done right now. I keep having to stop one important task to do another, more important task. Busy but not getting anything done. I have a big homework assignment for my training last week, 1500 worod essay. I started it but I need to get it done. And it’s practically at the bottom of my to-do list.

Blah blah blah. At least it’s almost Friday!
