TGIF

I’m glad it’s Friday. The last two days have been frustrating.
I’m trying to get a computer to communicate with my new On-Air console, and having no luck.
Got telemetry for my transmitter and it’s not working either.
I’m ready for the weekend.

Thinking about a Blackberry

I’ve had Palm Pilots my whole life, at least since they came out. I still have my first one, a Palm III that I upgraded the memory on and if I put batteries in it, it works just fine.
I’ve had my Treo 650 for years, but Palm isn’t putting out any improvements. They are falling by the wayside I think.
Treo is superior to Blackberry, but Blackberries are selling more than 10 to 1 against Palm.
And I want a new phone.

This has me written all over it!

Australia offers ‘best job in world’ on paradise island

An Australian state is offering internationally what it calls “the best job in the world” — earning a top salary for lazing around a beautiful tropical island for six months.

The job pays 150,000 Australian dollars (105,000 US dollars) and includes free airfares from the winner’s home country to Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland‘s state government announced on Tuesday.

In return, the “island caretaker” will be expected to stroll the white sands, snorkel the reef, take care of “a few minor tasks” — and report to a global audience via weekly blogs, photo diaries and video updates.

The successful applicant, who will stay rent-free in a three-bedroom beach home complete with plunge pool and golf buggy, must be a good swimmer, excellent communicator and be able to speak and write English.

“They’ll also have to talk to media from time to time about what they’re doing so they can’t be too shy and they’ll have to love the sea, the sun, the outdoors,” said acting state Premier Paul Lucas.

“The fact that they will be paid to explore the islands of the Great Barrier Reef, swim, snorkel and generally live the Queensland lifestyle makes this undoubtedly the best job in the world.”

Lucas said the campaign was part of a drive to protect the state’s 18 billion Australian dollar a year tourism industry during the tough economic climate caused by the global financial meltdown.

“Traditional tourism advertising just doesn’t cut it sometimes and we are thinking outside the box by launching this campaign.”

Queensland Tourism Minister Desley Boyle said some people might question whether it was risky to let an unknown person become an unofficial tourism spokesperson for the state.

“I think the biggest risk will be that the successful candidate won’t want to go home at the end of the six months,” she said.

“This is a legitimate job which is open to anyone and everyone.”

Applications are open until February 22. Eleven shortlisted candidates will be flown to Hamilton Island in early May for the final selection process and the six month contract will commence on July 1.

MP3 Player bit the dust

My 20 Gig MP3 player bit the dust yesterday, after years of good service. It is a Creative Nomad Jukebox 3. It looks like an el cheapo CD player, so nobody wanted to rip it off. It has line level inputs and outputs so you could record on it and playback from it.
Yesterday I was trying to do a firmware upgrade and it erased the old firmware and won’t load the new, so it can’t boot up.
I spent most of the day yesterday, trying to git ‘er workin again, but no luck.

The JOYS of home ownership

I just got done weed whacking the whole yard, and colllecting 3 huge wheelbarrows full of rocks. I swear the rocks are breeding and coming up out of the soil like plants. Remember when I started weed whacking? I compared it to the Terminator Robot with the Gatling Gun? Well, I’m over that. Yard work sucks.

I’m thinking:
-ing the whole yard

Biggest Full Moon of the Year: Take 2

January 8, 2009: When last month’s full Moon rose over Florida, onlooker Raquel Stanton of Cocoa Beach realized that something was up.

“The Moon was stunningly gorgeous–and it looked bigger than usual!” she says. “My whole family noticed and watched in awe.”

Like millions of others around the world, she had witnessed the biggest full Moon of 2008–a “perigee Moon,” 14% wider and 30% brighter than lesser Moons she had seen before. “I’ll never forget it.”

Alert: It’s about to happen again.

This Saturday night, Jan. 10th, another perigee Moon is coming. It’s the biggest full Moon of 2009, almost identical to the one that impressed onlookers in Dec. 2008.

Tuesday Randomness

Yesterday wasn’t such a bad day. It was over before I knew it!
In mid December, I went to the dentist. He said I had a filling I needed to replace. We made an appointment for yesterday. Between the two appointments, I started feeling a little pain in my tooth. When i got to the dentists yesterday, I said “I hope the one you’re going to fix is the same one that’s started hurting!” It was.
Today there is 5 or 6 cruise ships in port. It should be very packed down town and on the beach.
This morning, after the walk, the dogs were on the back porch, I walked out there and they were acting guilty but I couldn’t find anything wrong. Suspicious….
After work, I’m meeting the OI Girl at the beach.
