This morning, before work, actually, On my way to work, I’m stopping by the grocery store. I have a list.
Last night I got a call out of the blue from a really good friend who was on the USS Brewton with me. Tango Whiskey Sierra. More than 35 years since we last spoke.
More and more of my friends are retired. No retirement in sight for me. Not ever. None of my pensions are worth a crap. I gonna have to take half a day vacation time for my own funeral, then it’ll be back to work. This covid thing going on make me think I wouldn’t enjoy retirement anyway.
Speaking of back to work, I gotta go, via the grocery store.
Yesterday was a holiday here in the Cayman Islands, so today is the first day of the workweek, if you’re unfortunate enough (or lucky enough) to be working
Good news on the BBC this morning, talk of re-opening some businesses and starting to relax the restrictions implemented because of covid 19.
Bad news too, the 40 beach partiers messed everything up for the 63,000 others on these islands. Beaches will remain closed till at least Friday. I think it’s a psychology thing. Instead of saying “indefinitely” or “untill further notice”, you give a date, then keep extending it. Gives the people hope, or a goal. Light at the end of the tunnel.
Tomorrow I may venture to the grocery store again…
So, the beaches are now closed, hopefully only until the end of today (Easter Monday) but probably beyond, thanks specifically to about 40 people out having a drinking party (under the guise of exercise) on good Friday. Hope they all got arrested and get the maximum fine of $3000. That’s $120,000 to help the economy recover after this is all over.
There were other “gatherings” too, but these 40 were specifically mentioned during the press conference the closure was announced. Below is a newspaper clip:
Plus give them the max prison sentence for screwing it up for everyone. For the record, there are no “private” beaches in the Cayman Islands.
Instead of her beach walk this morning, my wife is taking a road walk. This upsets me. These drunks thought they could have a normal beach drinking party and if the police come, they could just say they were all there exercising.
This would be a long weekend coming up, with Friday and Monday holidays. They’re still holidays, but with this covid 19 thing goin’ on, it kinda messes it up.
My wife called me at work yesterday and asked me to go to the grocery store. I was kinda upset, ’cause I woulda gone first thing in the morning, had I known. But, the stores are restricted by last name/day, plus they’d be closed for the aforementioned holiday weekend. So I went.
Went to one store, couldn’t even get a paking spot. Went to the second, showed my airport ID, and got in the line, pictured above. It goes ahead in front me, just as far as you can see, then turns abruptly right and U-turns back and forth two or three times under the the pavillion thingy you see sticking out near the center of the pic. Well, lucky me, the policeman I showed my ID to walked alll the way down to where I was and got me and took me to the front of the line, because I was a working guy. It easlily halved my time at the store. Thank you Policeman!
AND, at work yesterday was a really cool bicycle, leaning up against the Air Traffic tower. I have no idea whose it was, but it was cool! I want one! Wonder if it can go on the beach!??!
Long and lean, big ‘ol fat tires. Looked sooo cool! There’s a phone number on the bike for the company…
Yesterday afternoon I did a little touch up on the painting from day before. Fixed one spot and messed up another that I should have left alone.
I will say this, for the first time in history, I had two identical cans of paint that were supposed to be the same color, actually were the same color.
The sun coming up this morning is a red orange orb the camera can’t capture
I’m kinda crabby this morning. Dogs weren’t cooperative this morning, walk cut short. No reason, really.
I’m ready to get to work, I feel like getting a lot done. Stop me from thinking…
Did quite a bit of painting when I got home from work yesterday. I painted the whole downstairs carport with Brick Red Concrete sealer. After work today, I plan on fixing a few dribbles with yellow and thin spots of the brick red. I’m running out of paint brushes and rollers and with this covid 19 thing going on, I can’t get more.
I’m getting caught up at work, believe it or not. Or so it seems. I’m afraid I’ll jinx myself by saying that.
Looks like another good day, same as the good day yesterday!
I guess I’m about ready for a new tablet. My S3 has been giving indications of slowing down with age.
Back to work Monday. It was a good, largely boring weekend. I pressure washed the new concrete near the driveway, and I’ll paint it this week.
I need a bag of cement, and some 3/4 inch PVC pipe. I’ll be glad when the “non critical” stores open up again. There was talk of some countries loosening up and leaning back towards normal.
It seems odd to me now, used to be, I’d pop into the store for one item. Maybe I need batteries or Q-Tips, something forgotten on the grocery list. Going to the hardware store for one screw, 12 cents. Those days seem like a long time ago. now, going to the store is a major event. Set the alarm, mask and gloves, get there when they open, show your ID. Don’t forget anything ’cause there’s no going back. Everything’s a major event now.
I hope thinks go back to “normal” and I hope “normaal” is the same “normal” that it was before.
I had a lifetime supply of dust protection face masks. One package, about 20, all I’d ever need. I gave them to the construction crew when they were here. So now, when I need dust protection masks for this covid 19 thing, I don’t have them and can’t get them. Which I find quite irritating.
So I decided to make my own face mask. I got a pattern off the internet, cut some cardboard, and a new XXL T shirt, unused, from some event.
It only took me two days! I threw it away and later picked it out of the garbage two times, and I might still make some more adjustments so It might not be done yet.
But here it is:
All done by hand. Maybe someday I’ll give you a sewing lesson.
I got my “critical worker” letter yesterday, and it’s back to work today. I expect to be the only one there.
This covid 19 is getting serious. I don’t really want to go to work, I don’t really want to stay home either. I think the wife will be glad to have me ou of the house though.
