I slept pretty good last night, but I’m tired right now.. I took it easy on my morning exercise this morning. I have a body full of sore muscles, and I plan on swimming at lunch. I won’t mention yesterday’s chin-ups.
After work I have a pickleball lesson. From what I understand pickleball is exactly like ping Pong except you’re standing on the table. Seriously, it looks like tennis.
Saturday was an 800 Meter Sea Swim. I did’t swim well, I went way off course, but it was still good. Saturday evening, I went to the movies and sau A Man Called Otto. Loved it. Complimented the book.
Sunday saw me go to an early morning yoga class, which left me feeling great, followec by coffee on the beach at the Westin and then a scuba dive.
I planned on house cleaning and yaard work after that but took a nap and did very little cleaning. I went to bed early and don’t think I woke up once all night, except 4 minutes before the alarm, and I went right back to sleep.
And now it’s back to work, and I’m actually looking forward to it.
it’s the first full week of 2023. Five full days of working bliss! Hooo RAY!
Above is the first harvest from my Otaheite apple tree. 1 lb, 14 oz. I haven’t eaten one yet. I feel like I should give some to my ex-wife, she started the tree from a seed.
Next weekend is a half mile swim on Saturday and the 5K Dog Walk/Run on Sunday. I haven’t been training for either. Both are do-able without training for me, but I definitely want to get out and swim a few times this week I’ll swim to swim and walk the run.
First day back to work is done. Ready for round 2. Today is a “must swim” day. I get to feeling like I must swim and have gone in pouring rainstorms before. Today is a must swim day, and it won’t be raining! (I don’t think).
During my lunchtime, it has become difficult, if not impossible for .me to make it to my half mile swim course. Yesterday i tested out a new course, closer to work.
I swam from Eden Rock to Don Fosters and back. Four tenths of a mile. The yellow line in the above image is 400 meters. So there and back would be 800 meters. The red line is an easy to spot turn around point, but would make the swim considerably longer than 800 meters.
It is more advanced swimming than along Seven Mile Beach, with ironshore instead of sand, there’s not a lot of places to get out in an emergency. And it’s quite a bit rougher water than 7MB. My return to Eden Rock was a little more difficult than my trip away. On 7 Mile Beach you can literally pull over anywhere, get out and walk along the beach. Here, you have to find a ladder to climb up and then make it to the street through private property to get back to your starting point. There is absolutely no walking along the shore. Also the bottom is sharp coral and a miskick or not paying attention and getting too shallow could prove dangerous. But overall, it’s a good, swimmable course. And I imagine it will make the Seven Mile Beach swims seem easier.
Happy Tuesday! I guess this time of year a lot of people are taking a lot of time off. Enjoy!
part of my house number sign and a flower cluster from a bush.
Good morning, happy FRIDAY! I slept good and I feel good today. Tomorrow is a half mile swim. I’ll be there if all goes according to plan. Hopefully there will be some scuba diving going on on Sunday. Not much work needs to be done around the house. The weather isn’t looking too catastrophic. It should be a good, leisurely weekend.
Its Discovery Day, a holiday Monday here in Cayman. It was supposed to rain for 10 days but it’s been mostly sunny. Hurt at last two of my low light plants pretty badly. I out them out for rain and they got sunburnt.
Below are pictures from yesterdays dive.
Also, on Saturday, I did the CIASA 800M Swim, I was pleasantly surprised to come in 3rd in my age category, willing a 3rd place medal. 3rd out of 5. I’ve never been a racer, I’ve never been on a swim team. I’ve been a lifeguard and swimming lesson teacher and scuba diver/instructor. I realized I am slow and steady,.one speed no matter how far I have to go. So I’m no longer obsessed about going fast, I want the t-shirt.
I guess it was last night that was the longest night/shortest day. Now the days start getting longer again in the northern hemisphere.
I’m getting the front porch and back porch tiled. I’m tired of painting and scraping and working on it every year or two. Being tiled should make it practically bomb proof and maintenance free. I got the best possible tile, although it wasn’t my first choice. My first choice sold out between the time I got my estimate and I went back to pay. 2 days.
it’s a beautiful, clear day so far. I didn’t swim yesterday, I came home to accept delivery of the tiles, I may or may not swim today, depending on when the contractor can come over to receive instruction. But, if he comes after work, I’ll be swimming at lunchtime!
Today the sea swim got cut short due to lightning. There were swimmers swimming 1 km, there were swimmers swimming 3 km, and there were 5 km swimmers. The one km swimmers were able to finish the race, the 3 km swimmers almost finished the race. Perhaps some of them did. But the 5 km swimmers didn’t finish at all.
According to my watch, I swam 1.32 miles. That’s 2.124334 kilometers. A hard rain started just before the race started had just quit. I was approaching the halfway point when I heard people yelling, I thought to myself “surely nobody’s yelling at me, I’m right on course”. But the event workers were yelling at everyone to get out of the water.
It’s Friday! I’m doing my normal routine, but out of order.
Tomorrow morning there is a 5 K sea swim. I’ve been doing the half mile at lunch almost every lunchtime. Twice this week in the pouring rain. 5 K is 3.1 miles. 6X longer than I’ve been training for. Years ago, I did a 2 mile sea swim, that’s my longest so far. The thought of swimming my half mile circuit 6 times is kind of disturbing, But I’m pretty sure I’m going to go for it. It should take me two hours.
