Wrecking My Target

I found a toy fish net on the beach and put in in the yard for a slingshot target. It works really well, and if you are accurate, you get your ammo back!
Yesterday I found the cats using my target as a playground or some kind of hammock!
C’mon Mom, keep your kids in line!

Why don’t you cats keep the chickens outta my yard instead?

Awww Dangit!

(The target is for my slingshot which I use against chickens who take advantage of other chickens. I hate to see the strong ones intimidate the weaker to get more food. Also chickens who come around and try to steal food from the cats. My ammo are these light round seeds that can’t travel fast and won’t hurt anything).

Jimi Hendrix

September 19, 1970, Jimi Hendrix died of a drug overdose. I never really liked most of his music. But it seems to be getting better as I get older. Same as The Doors and The Who, when I was young I didn’t care for them, but they’ve gotten better with age. This week I must mow the lawn, I’ve been putting it off so long, if I’d a done it when I first should have, I’d be needing to do it again now anyway.
And I have to rustle up some work. That radio station I’ve been working on hopefully will be finished this week.
Saturday, we bought a slow cooker and tested it out Sunday with some beef stew. It came out pretty good but was done in about 4 hours instead of 10.

Diabolical Genius

I have a small flashlight rubber-banded on the handlebars of my bicycle as a headlight. It’s more for cars to be able to see me than to illuminate my way. (Also I think there’s a law that says bicycles must have a headlight at night, but most don’t.) I noticed that my “headlight” was a little dim last time, so I bought two new “C” cell coppertops to replace the batteries.
Turns out, that when you buy batteries, you get a free flashlight, just like in the picture above. Turns out the flashlight takes “D” cells, which I don’t have, so I need batteries.

It’s a big plot I tell ya! If I buy batteries, I’ll get another flashlight and need two more batteries, if I buy more batteries, I’ll get another light and need even more batteries and…..

Culling Course

Last night I took the required course and filled out an Lionfish Culling application. Or as I like to say, “Lionfish Killing”

From the Cayman Islands Department of Environment Facebook page:

The Red Lionfish (Pterois volitans) started its invasion of the Cayman Islands with the first one found in Little Cayman. Practically a year later Grand Cayman had its first reported sighting. Since then the Cayman Islands Department of Environment has been working hard to promote awareness of this invasive species and with the enormous help from an outstanding team of licensed cullers, we have seen many hundreds removed from our waters.

In a week I should have my license, then I will apply for the speargun permit. I don’t want to catch lionfish, I don’t want to eat lionfish. I don’t want to get stung by a lionfish. I just want to help prevent them from taking over the reef.

Pura Vida

Today is Costa Rica independence day. 190 years since they claimed their independence from Spain. My wife picked todays T-Shirt for me!
I’m trying the new Blogger interface. Not too sure I like it, but it’s been a whole 30 seconds.
Where’s my colored squares? Everything is white. Where’s my ‘Edit HTML’?
It looks like WordPress.

UPDATE: The new interface would not work with Networked Blogs, so I’m re posting this post and deleting the original

The Long Walk

I just finished a book called “The Long Walk” by Stephen King. It’s about this game show, once a year where 100 people start walking at at least 4 miles per hour, if they slow down, they get 3 warnings, then POW! They get shot dead. They have to keep walking till there’s only one left and he’s the winner of the game show.

Yesterday I did my own version of the Long Walk. I took my scooter in for some repairs and had the repair place’s courtesy shuttle drop me off at the grocery store, where I had an egg sandwich. Then I crossed the street to the beach and walked all the way up 7 Mile Beach to the end, got on the road, and walked the rest of the way home. Below is a Google Earth view of where I walked, starting at the bottom and ending at the top. Of course, I didn’t do the beeline course the yellow line shows, I curved along the shore and roads, about 3 hours solid walking. In the book, the long walk ended on the 5th day. Below are some pics I took on MY long walk!

Good Weekend

It was a good weekend overall, Saturday wasn’t great because the Wife had to work, and it was cloudy and threatening to rain all day. (It DID rain everywhere except here, at our house)

Sunday we went to the beach, and it was hot and sunny, with the occasional cloud drifting by. You could see it raining down the beach, but not where we were.

Also, my Washington Redskins won! and the Dallas Cowboys lost! Can’t ask for more!
