Trivia Night

Last night was Trivia Night at Pirates Den (PD’s) Pub. It is sponsored by Cayman Animal Rescue Enthusiasts (CARE). My wife’s mighty team, The Hammerheads, (of which I was a part, AND picked the name), came in third place. (I think that actually, PD’s is the sponsor for this CARE event, not vice versa)
Here is a glorious picture of our mighty trivia team!

CARE  raised almost $1000 for the free spay/neuter program at this event, which apparently happens the first Wednesday of each month. I’m sure the Hammerheads will be back!

It was tough, for example, “what’s the only English word that ends with the letters MT?” I got it, so I’m sure you will too.

I am so glad it tomorrow is FRIDAY!

Pet Peeve

My pet peeve is apps that don’t have an exit button. Virus-like, they want to keep running in the background, with their little icon up in the corner….

Tuesday Tidbits

I’ve been sitting here about 10 minutes, waiting for my morning inspiration for my post and it’s not coming

Here’s a pic  I just took with my Nexus camera.

I can’t tell how I feel today, neutral.

The weather says 50% chance of rain today, but it’s beautiful right now. Scooter or car? I haven’t mowed the yard in over a month, but it doesn’t need it, because no rain. But it rained some yesterday so I’ll be mowing pretty soon, I rekkon.

Love the new camera, still figuring it out. Above is a shot I took yesterday of a bird on a branch.

In about a week and two days I go to Costa Rica! The Wife is going a couple days before me and getting a new passport. Looking forward to going sooo much! We’re going to Drake Bay, in the south. My Brother in law and his wife run a tour company there. Very popular, very successful. Here’s a link. Can’t wait.

That’ll do for today, Have a good day!

Great Weekend

It was a good weekend, Friday we went to dinner to celebrate our 5th Wedding Anniversary, Saturday we went to the Batabanu parade, and Sunday The Wife went out with some friends from Costa Rica and I went to the beach.May 02, 2014 002May 03, 2014 045May 03, 2014 028 May 03, 2014 023

Death Penalty

image

I saw a headline “Killer dies after botched execution” and thought, “hmmm, if he died, it sounds like a successful execution, not a botched one.”

Then I read the article, and you know the story.

I start thinking about it, and to me it comes down to: What is the purpose of the death penalty? Is it to get the criminal off the street? Or is it supposed to be a deterrent? I think it should be both.

I don’t think they should wait years from the time the sentence is passed down to the time it is carried out, either. I think it should be within a pre-determined time, 3 days, 30 days….

Also, what’s the problem with lethal injections? Veterinarians have been putting down large animals for years and years with no problems. Get the local vet to do it.

I don’t really see the necessity for this “no suffering” law. I mean, even hanging has to hurt for a second. Electric chair probably hurts the most. I guess the no suffering law indicates the death penalty is to be a way to get the criminal off the street, and not a deterrent to potential criminals. I think that’s wrong thinking. I think it should be a deterrent, big time. If I go to work late, I get in trouble, that’s why I don’t go in late. It’s not because I’m dedicated or any crap like that. It’s the consequences that keep me in line for some things… I think… lemme think about that some more.

PennJilletteOnWhyHeIsntRapingandKillingEveryone42715I think  that if the death penalty is to be a deterrent, it needn’t be painless, I’m not saying torture or anything like that, but something no potential criminal would want, like hanging or decapitation (even one bullet costs too much). I don’t think it should be “if you kill someone, the penalty will be that you will painlessly go to sleep forever”. If the purpose of the death penalty is to get the criminal off the street, then the death penalty is unnecessary.  They’ll be off the street in prison.

The death penalty is a very strong statement, I think that statement is: “You have done something so bad that society has determined you don’t get to exist on this planet any more. You do not deserve any enjoyment, not even as small an enjoyment as reading  a book or laughing at a joke in prison. You will cease to exist for your crime.” To me, that’s the punishment, AND the deterrent.

I heard Cayman Islands used to have the death penalty, hanging was the method.

That being said, HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND!

New Camera Arrived

The new camera arrived, it is awesome! It can connect to my phone or tablet and the device can be a remote control for the camera. There’s tons  more features I have to learn.
My first picture was of my wife. I had the controls set to “A”, which I thought was auto, but was aperture  priority, so it was a little dark.

Here’s one of the baby mangos, as big as the end of your pinky right now.

Here’s one of me, using the tablet to control the camera

I look so old…

Last night we had some friends over for dinner. Stayed up till12:30. My scooter is in the shop so I have to take the bus to work. I gotta go, right now!

Flight Check

image

This week at work is our annual flight check. Technicians come in their plane and fly around and measure our equipment from the air. That’s what is  going on this week.

I Discovered Velcro

image

I discovered Velcro. I didn’t invent it, but I discovered it.

It was 1965 or 66, I lived in Rockville, Maryland. I had this rug in my room. It was the color of pencil eraser. It had a rectangular “stain” about one inch by three, from where I dropped a gluey rubber tank tread for a model – glue side down – on that rug.

I remember how certain types of fabric would stick to that rug. I remember pulling them off, with that velcro sound, over and over. I thought “this is pretty cool”. I never imagined it could be a valuable invention.

I lived in Rockville for kindergarten and first grade, 5 and 6 years old.

And that’s my post for today. It should be a Flashback Friday post, but today’s another Monday.

Last night I dreamed I got stuck in a shipwreck while I was scuba diving, but I woke up before I even had a chance to  try to get out. I dropped my camera under some stairs and was wriggling under the railing to try and reach it and got stuck. I also dreamed that some electronic equipment was off the air because something was mis-adjusted. I thought I did it but couldn’t remember doing it. Weird dreams… ice cream before bed theory?

Have a good week!

We’re All Here…

Because we’re not all there

It doesn’t feel like Friday. Glad it is though.

Seems like I’ve not been getting along with people the last couple of days. first I thought it was them but maybe it’s me…

Have a good week-end!
